Resolution Recap–How’d March Fare?

Yup, this is how I’m keeping up with my New Year’s Resolutions! How are you doing on yours?

I’ll keep this short since you probably get the drift by now:

1. Run 520 miles (10 miles a week):

Running Route

I have upped my mileage now that the weather’s nicer, but I’m afraid my deficit from the beginning of the year will doom this resolution.

2. Write a novel.

Maybe this one just isn’t bound to happen. I’ve made this resolution in different forms for the past 2 years and failed both times.

3. Read a new book every month.

I tried to read 2 books (one about Scientology, the other a novel) and failed finishing at both. Maybe I should just focus on 1 good one instead of trying to read everything at once!

4. Save $2000+ (for emergency fund).

I’m so close to this. I’m pretty sure I’ll have it done by June.

5. Stop biting my nails.

I tried really hard at this one for about 2 weeks. I bought a nasty-tasting nail polish and was going to focus on one nail at a time so I’m not overwhelmed by the cold turkey quitting of my nervous compulsion. But then I watched Game of Thrones and bit right through the nasty tasting nail polish.

6. Get a tattoo.

Still no ink.

7. Buy no new clothes in 2013.

So far, so good. Rocking the old duds with pride.

8. Eat out only once a month.

Not done too well with this in March. Moving to a new house put a dent in the eating out when we were very low on groceries, but didn’t want to have to haul a new load of food from the old apartment to the new house. Or when I was cleaning out the apartment and needed food to not pass out. Oh well, April’s a new month.

Scattered Thoughts–Nurses, Turbo Kick, News, Etc.

It’s Wednesday, but it feels like it should be Friday. Yesterday was a long day at work for me, but I wasn’t even at work. We traveled to a hospital to see how they are using our product. We met some wonderful nurses who were the happiest people on earth. It makes me smile to know that certain people on the “front lines of medicine” are so wonderful to be around.

After a day of traveling and meeting people and taking notes, I came home, ate a snack, and headed out to Turbo Kick at the YMCA. Turbo Kick was my first foray into fitness (other than playing soccer from elementary to high school). I went to my first Turbo Kick fitness class in the Maryville College Alumni Gym and have been hooked ever since. It’s weird to think. I’ve been Turbo Kicking for 6 or so years.

Enough reminiscing! I can’t wait to share Friday’s big news with you guys.

Well, those are all the scattered thoughts I’ve got in my brain right now, and my cats are all trying to sit on my lap/computer at once. Sean doesn’t believe me, but after he leaves for work, they “cat pile” me on the couch while I write. I have a terrible quality picture (since it’s so dark in here) to prove it:

Happy Wednesday!

Small Things Friday

Hooray! It’s Friday. This week felt like it flew by, which is pretty good because I’ve been in a pretty grumpy mood since about Monday afternoon. Fortunately, there have been little “pick-me-ups” along the way, small things that have made the week feel less hard, more manageable. Like this note I found in my lunchbox yesterday:

Lunchbox Love Note

Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference: Small compliments, people commenting on how they read my blog and they think I’m more talented than I think I am, (maybe I’ll go give Photoshop a try after all), or friends encouraging you to treat yourself:

And then taking that kindhearted inspiration to make someone else’s day:

Starbucks Coffee Chain

Sometimes, small things are just small things, like paying for someone else’s overpriced coffee just so maybe they’ll “pay it forward” or so perhaps it’ll change their mood. But sometimes, small things can become bigger things. Like a shift in your entire day for the better.

I hope you take the short amount of time that it take to do a “small thing” for someone else today. They may not even recognize how you’ve helped them or inspired them, but it’ll be worth the small effort on your part.

Happy Friday, everyone! Have a wonderful weekend.
