My Weekend List

1. I’m super excited about trying a new restaurant this weekend. Sean and I are planning on going to a new-to-us place in Marietta called, Chicken and the Egg. The website describes it as “Modern Farmstead Fare.” Sean is being all romantic-y saying he wants to take me out, but we’re both excited about trying new places like this. And it’s about time; we’ve lived here for over 2 years, sheesh.

2. I get a break week of running according to my marathon training plan! This week is only 10 miles. When I’m running 14, I’d give anything in my body to be able to stop at 10. And this week I get to!

3. We’re finishing LORT this weekend. We’ve slowly been making our way through the extended edition that Sean got for Christmas (yes, we’re just now making it through). We’ve been watching each movie—parts 1 and 2 over consecutive weekends. I’ve said it a thousand times, but I don’t mind repeating it. Samwise Gamgee is the best flippin’ friend a hobbit could have. And Frodo’s a jerk-wad. There, I said it.

4. Sean’s getting a massage on Sunday. I bought him a gift card for his birthday, and actually had to call and schedule the appointment myself since he wouldn’t do it. And I’ll admit I’m pretty flipping jealous about it.

5. I ordered Stephen King’s memoir, On Writing. I’ve read so many good things about it recently. I can’t wait to read it. It’ll be better than the last book I ordered, The Raw Food Detox Diet. Unlike On Writing, I didn’t research that one beforehand. It’s essentially a starvation diet. It’s fine for people whose only form of exercise is stretching or super-easy yoga. If I ate that way (all juicing and fruits until dinner), I’d probably break a bone while running or die on the trail. No thanks. I prefer my ice cream.

6. I’ve kept a really reasonable exercise schedule this week, and I’m pretty proud of myself for it. I rested on Monday, did an interval and Turbo Kick on Tuesday, boxing on Wednesday, running on Thursday (until I got too hungry and we had to turn back), and then yoga on Friday (10 miles on Saturday, of course). I’ve also been eating a little healthier and cutting back on my portions of sweets. I’m trying to be aware of when I’m full and not eat past that unless I know that I’m going to need food in me for exercise, but won’t be able to eat afterward. I’m still trying not to overdo it anymore.

7. I’ve made a decision about graduate school, but I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

Thanks for reading, everyone. Your comments, feedback, and general love from across the webz really does make a difference.

Happy Tuesday!

Sorry I’ve been MIA from blogland the past few days. It was a busy weekend.

Friday night, we went to see the new Batman movie. I’ve got to say, I wasn’t as swept away as everyone else was. I saw my Facebook explode with statuses like, “Batman was the best movie I’ve seen all year!” And stuff like that. I just wasn’t as affected, I suppose. It was a good movie, but not the best I’ve ever seen. I didn’t have that overjoyed, excited feeling afterward like a good movie is supposed to give you, ya know?

Thumbs Up!

Saturday Sean and I played 3 soccer games right in a row. Bam. Bam. Bam. We left the house at 7:30am and didn’t get back till 2 pm. Needless to say, we were a little exhausted. After a big lunch, a shower, and a short nap, we headed out grocery shopping.

For us, grocery shopping is a serious production. We usually go to three different stores for different types of things. At Trader Joe’s we get things like pastas, sauces, frozen sweets, cheese, etc. We go to Whole Food for produce, yogurt, and eggs (they’re the only ones who carry local yogurt and certified humane eggs). Then we head to Publix for things like toilet paper, baking stuff, etc.

It’s fairly drawn out, but we’ve got it down to a science. After that, we just chilled the rest of the evening.

On Sunday, we ran 10 miles for my marathon training. It wasn’t easy. My lungs and heart felt fine, I could have run forever and never felt out of breath or exhausted. But my legs were screaming by the end of mile 10. My Achilles tendon was sore, my knees were hurting, and even my arms felt tired. Weird, right?

Such a big run deserved a HUGE breakfast! We had biscuits, eggs, and sautéed potatoes. I don’t know if I’ve ever said it, but if you want potatoes of any kind, Sean is the potato master. Yum!

I took a nap (because that’s what weekends are for), and then we ordered a free pizza for lunch/dinner. I got pineapple on my half. It was pretty good, actually. I first tried it while I was babysitting a few weeks ago. It also meant that Sean couldn’t have any of my side of the pizza. :)

We watched the first of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy–the extended edition. I know I’ve said it a million times, but I always have to point it out when I watch that series: Samwise Gamgee is seriously the BEST friend anyone could ever have.

Samwise Gamgee

Monday was back to work day! I started the day with an upper body workout–back, chest, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. Then I headed to work. The day went by pretty quickly, and afterwards, Sean and I made a huge mess out of the kitchen making White Chocolate Cupcakes with Cookie Dough Frosting topping with freshly baked mini cookies. It was quite a production, and it was almost 9pm by the time were done, so I didn’t even get to taste one. I hope my marketing team like them!

I started this morning with a leg workout: 3 sets each of

  • 25 weighted lunges (each leg) – 15lb, 15lb, 20lb
  • 20 weighted squats – 15lb, 15lb, 20lb
  • 25 weighted deadlifts with calf raise at the end – 15lb, 15lb, 20lb
  • 25 donkey kicks (each leg)

Hopefully I can function at my soccer game tonight. Just standing is worbly after that.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Make today bright for yourself and for others. Smile a little more often, and make an effort to look at negative things positively.
