Vacation music

As far as Sean and I are concerned our vacation to Tybee Island is still on, regardless of whether Mitten Head has her teeth removed or not. We need to get away. Ok, maybe not need, but really really really want. Darn it!

I was on my way home from Turbo Kick/Boxing this morning and since NPR was on their classical music gig (past 9:00, boo), I changed the station to one of my favorites. It’s not really an oldies station, but it plays the “Greatest Hits” from all the generations except this one because, let’s face it, the music of our generation is a little vapid. Example:

Gotta get-get, gotta get-get
Gotta get-get, gotta g-g-g-get-get-get, get-get

Boom boom boom, gotta get-get
Boom boom boom, gotta get-get
Boom boom boom, gotta get-get
Boom boom boom, gotta get-get

Boom boom boom, now
Boom boom boom, now
Boom boom pow
Boom boom

Riveting. I was truly moved.

Anyway, so as soon as I turn it one I get some Jimmy Buffett, “Cheeseburger in Paradise” which made me want to both hear more Jimmy Buffett and stop for a cheeseburger.

Tried to amend my carnivorous habits
Made it nearly seventy days
Losin’ weight without speed, eatin’ sunflower seeds
Drinkin’ lots of carrot juice and soakin’ up rays

But at night I’d had these wonderful dreams
Some kind of sensuous treat
Not zucchini, fettucini or Bulgar wheat
But a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat

Preach it, Jimmy. Preach it. I can’t remember the last time I had a real cheeseburger.

Then, right afterward “Lola” by The Kinks came on. I used to sing along with every word of this song not realizing that Lola was a man. When I did, it was quite a revelation.

As I was getting closer to my apartment, on came Michael Jackson’s, “The Way You Make Me Feel,” another song I grew up singing every word to.

All these awesome songs in a row got me thinking. I need to create a vacation travel playlist so that when we are on our long trip to Tybee, eating Special K Fruit Crisps like they’re potato chips, (Sure, why not have another? Oh, we’re all out? Open another box!), we can have something fun to sing along to.

So, I’ve already decided on adding Jimmy Buffet to the list, some good oldies like The Kinks, and of course I’ll make Sean listen to duets between Michael Jackson and I.

But do you all have any suggestions?
