I’ve always found scars really interesting. My new job, which does a lot of marketing for plastic surgeons and cosmetic altering businesses, has brought appearances to the forefront of my attention. One service offered by a lot of cosmetic laser dermatologists, etc. is scar removal.
I can’t imagine life without my scars. That being said, I know I don’t have any huge face-covering scars. I know that some people don’t want reminders of things that happened to them. Or they feel like people see the scar instead of the person who’s behind it. I’m not in the business of judging people who want to try to get rid of those.
I don’t have any super-prominent scars. I have two on my eyelid from getting stitches there… twice. The first time I fell on a jungle gym. The second time I jumped off a bunk bed. I have one on the inside of my right middle finger from falling in the shower. I have one on my arm from burning it on the oven door the first time I made pizza. I have scars on my arms and legs from playing sports.
I like them all. They all have good stories associated with them. Maybe I’ll tell you some one day.
However, I was looking up scarring yesterday and came upon a some pages looking at celebrities who have prominent scars, and I thought you’d be interested in knowing some celeb tid-bits. Maybe not.
Padma Lakshmi was in a car accident when she was younger and this seven inch scar down her arm is a result. When she got older, she tried to have it removed through injections and laser treatments, but they were very painful. She went to a photo shoot once after a treatment and the makeup artist and photographer were saddened by her lack of scar. The photographer made the makeup artist add color to the scar making it look like it hadn’t undergone therapy. From then on, Lakshmi refused to undergo any more treatment and enjoys not hiding her scar in her private life.
Harrison Ford’s chin scar came from when he tried to buckle up while losing control of his car in 1968. His scar has been incorporated in two of his movies. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade it is said that Jones hit himself in the face with his whip. And in Working Girl his character claims to have gotten the scar from a knife fight, but later admits to hitting his face on a toilet after passing out from getting his ear pierced.
When Catherine Zeta Jones was a child, she had a virus which impaired her ability to breathe. As a result she had a tracheotomy and the scar remains. Elizabeth Taylor also supposedly had a tracheotomy, leaving a similiar scar on her neck.
Tiny Fey reportedly got this scar from an incident that occurred when she was just 5 years old. Someone approached her in her yard and slashed her in the face! A 5 year old!
Sharon Stone supposedly got this scar from a horseback riding accident where she ran into a taut cord.
I like scars. Hopefully if you have some, you can embrace them and the life lessons they taught you. They’re beautiful!
