Running playlist

Now that I have an armband for my iPhone, running is a little (note: not too much) easier than it was before. I can at least try to forget about what’s going on in my brain/body for a few seconds. I’ve gotten pretty used to the armband. It was just a regular old $30 one from Target (yeah, $30 for an armband, jeesh. Might as well have given them my whole arm for it…). It felt weird at first, but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make for my sanity.

So here is a sample of some songs I like to listen to while I run.

Prrrum by Cosculluela – I looked up the lyrics to this, and it’s about this guy who’s trying to woo woman away from her current sleaze of a boyfriend. This song is good for running because the beat is fairly steady, not too slow and not too fast, and it stays interesting. It’s also a good ab song if you feel like booty shaking.

Damaged by Danity Kane – This is an older song, but like the previous it has a pretty steady beat (I’m all about not forcing myself to go to fast), and I like singing along in my head. It’s a guilty pleasure song of sorts. Don’t judge. “Baby! The situation’s driving me crazay!” I sing along while running, even though I can’t breathe and sing and run at the same time.

Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen – I’ll listen to this song on repeat all day. It’s a great motivational song and really just goes along with the whole point of running right? I mean imagine yourself running in a music video to this song, “Don’t stop me now! I’m having such a good time. I’m having a ball!” To me, that’s the judge of a good running song, if you could imagine yourself in the music video for it. (Also try Another One Bites the Dust)

F*ck You (or Forget You) by Cee Lo Green – As I’ve mentioned before, there’s something about pointed use of the F word that just feels so right, even if you’re not the one saying it. This is another great sing-along song (even the Forget You version is) because it’s funky and fun and makes you forget you’re running.

Smooth Criminal – Michael Jackson – Really any upbeat Michael Jackson song will work for me. There’s something about his music that just pumps me up in general. Billie Jean, Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough, The Way You Make Me Feel, etc. Any MJ song makes me feel like I could keep going even when I don’t want to.

Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles – Much like Queen and MJ, any Eagles song works for me. This one just has some good lyrics about things going fast and being reckless, and sometimes, that’s just how I want to feel when I run. Like a fast and reckless gazelle.

Those are just a few of the song I like to listen to while I’m torturing myself with running. What songs do you guys like to exercise to?
