How to make a boxed cake mix taste better than boxed cake

Sean went to Dragon*Con this Sunday evening. And about as soon as he walked out the door my stomach mutinied. Ugh. Sean offered to come home ASAP when I told him I had an itty bitty-fever and a tummy ache. How sweet.

I tried to run it off. You know? Sweat it out? But no such luck, I only made it 5k before my stomach was unhappier than before.

My mind was still on how sweet Sean was to give up the $40 he spent for 30 minutes at Dragon*Con to come take care of me. So I made him a cake. His secret weakness… now no longer secret.

You need:

  • boxed cake mix
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable/canola oil
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350. Mix the dry in one bowl, the wet in the other, and then mix those two together.

Then grease and flour your baking pans (I used two 8-inch rounds).

Pour batter into the pans and bake for about 32 minutes.

Meanwhile, make yourself a very childish dinner of vegetarian chicken nuggets and organic waffle fries.

When the cake is done baking, let it cook on a wire rack for 1 hour or until cool.

Once cooled, set one cake on a platter and plop some frosting on top.

The plop some frosting on top and on the sides. Until it looks profesh.

Then depending on your significant other’s sprinkle obsession…

Then let him eat it all… Because, whew, cake is gross.
