I’m headed up to Tennessee this afternoon to spend the weekend with my mom as she recovers from hip replacement surgery. Whew. That’s rough stuff, right there. I’ll spare you all the gory details, but imagine being cut open right at your hip/butt all the way through the tissue and muscle down to the bone. Talk about a long recovery. I’d go insane if I had to just be still for that long.
Speaking of not being still, I went to check out a CrossFit box last night! I’ve been looking into CrossFit and researching it for probably over a year. I really like the idea of it, but a lot of factors kept me from trying it out. I had a lot going on (triathlons, soccer, etc.). I didn’t want to spend the money. And there wasn’t really a location that was actually close to me.
Well, a box opened up just down the road from where we live, and I called the guy to see if I could come check it out. I met the owner last night for a tour, and it seems totally awesome. I think a lot of people have the perception that CrossFit is only for the super-fit, but during my tour, the owner explained that they have people coming it at all fitness levels and ages. That made me feel a lot better. They also emphasized the focus on learning the form and fundamentals before really challenging yourself with heavy weights.
I’m really interested in getting started.
Does anyone have any experience with CrossFit? What are your most and least favorite parts?
I hope you have a wonderful Friday and a fantastic weekend!
