Good Monday morning! I hope your weekends were amazing! Mine was very nice minus the Falcons’ loss to those dumb old 49ers. Le sigh. That aside, Sean and I spent a lot of time relaxing, perusing Lowe’s for home ideas, checking out the house we saw on Friday again. Maybe a nap was involved…
I think our house hunting has lost sight of its original scope. Does that ever happen to anyone? We started out looking for a nice, small starter home near where we currently live, and somehow ended up looking at houses $50k over our original budget that need tons of renovations to resell later and are way out in suburbia just because they’re in better school districts (which is also better for reselling down the road).
I thought the process of house hunting would be fun, but it just feel like I’m in over my head. It’s kind of bringing out the worst in me, as much as I hate to admit it. We’ll figure it out, though. Being a first-time home buyer is not as easy as TV makes it seem…
Pudge doesn’t care where we move as long as snuggling still happens.
But, more importantly than that, I’m super excited that today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I know that this day means different things for some than it does for others, but I am inspired by MLK, Jr.’s unrelenting fight for equal rights for all. We think we’ve achieved equal rights on all fronts. But the truth is, we’re far from equality. Racism still exists, whether we want to admit it or not. Women are not treated equally in the workplace. Two consenting adults are not allowed to be married, just because other people don’t like it.
But you can’t fight hatred with hatred. Fighting fire with fire burns the whole town down.
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Try to make a difference this Monday! Spread love and kindness to people who may not be your favorite. Everyone is struggling with their own “stuff” so go out there and be a light in a world of darkness!
